'm dave clark. >> good morning. i'm tori campbell. it's tuesday, january 8th. >>> we begin with continuing coverage of the near disaster on the san francisco bay that we first covered on ktvu channel 2 news at noon yesterday. this morning, the u.s. coast guard will meet with the pilot of the oil tanker that sideswiped a tower of the bay bridge. ktvu's alex savidge joins us live with new details about this bar pilot's past. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning. a coast guard spokesperson tells me there will be an update on this investigation coming after the team is briefed at 8:00 this morning. we do know that investigators will be sitting down later today and talking with the pilot at the controls of this 750-foot oil tanker when it struck one of the bay bridge towers. he's identified as george close with eight years experience. he did pass an alcohol test yesterday and the results of a drug test may come back today. yesterday's accident yesterday after the vessel was heading back to sea. there was heavy fog in the area at the time. that cut visibility on the bay to just about a
clark. >> i'm tori campbell. >>> police are investigating a violent night in san francisco's potrero hill neighborhood. paul chambers is live with information on injuries after a shooting and a stabbing just a block apart. paul? >> reporter: good morning, tori. now, police released the -- the scene here. take a look at some video here. police say the first time scene happened about 1:40 this morning. shots were fired in the potrero hill neighborhood. police say a 53-year-old man was exiting vehicle when he was struck by a bullet in his foot. he was taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. almost two hours later and after officers left the first scene, they were called back, this time responding to a stab. in that situation, police say the victim was stabbed while inside a home. he then walked outside where someone called 911. he was taken to an area hospital with three stab wounds to the chest. he's expected to survive. police say as of right now, they do not believe the two crimes are connected and they do not have any information about motives or suspects in either
hiring? >>> good morning. i'm dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell. it's friday, january 4th. >>> right now, pg&e is still working to restore power to dozens of customers in san francisco. they lost power after a driver fleeing from police crashed into a power pole in a caltrain parking lot. ktvu's claudine wong has been at the scene since 4:30 this morning and has more. they are making some progress? >> reporter: yes, tori. since we last economicked in with you, we -- checked in with you, they've made some progress. there was a power pole hanging from the top of the hours and hanging down. the big step was to get that down. now it's laying on the tree. they said once they -- on the ground. they said once they did that, they would be able to fix the power. take a look at this scene right now. it's a mess. it's been that way for more than five hours since this chase happened. it started at 1:50 this morning. san francisco police telling me this actually started as a chp place that ended up down in the streets of san francisco. they say the driver fled from a traffic stop, ended up crashing i
'm tori campbell. it's monday, january 7th. >>> breaking news in the east bay. we're learning what caused -- what looked like a lot of smoke in the berkeley area, turns out it was just a steampipe that burst at a factory. let's go to sal. >> we got a lot of calls in the newsroom. we turned the camera to it. we can show you this picture now. it's just a bunch of team coming from a factory. we have different parts of the steam coming from a broken steampipe or it may be normal operations. but people saw this and said there is a fire in berkeley. well, we called the berkeley fire department. they are not working any fire and they assured us this is just steam. that's good news. as we look at the steam coming up, now that it will be light, i don't think people will be freaking out quite as much as they were. at least one gentleman thought it was pretty ominous to see that smoke. it's just steam. right now traffic is not affected in this area in berkeley, east of interstate 80. back to you. >> thank you, sal. >>> the family of a san francisco woman who was set on fire is pleading for the suspe
